Did you know your company could face litigation is you’re not paying the appropriate license fee for playing copyright music to callers On Hold?

If you’re playing the radio or CD’s even your company jingle you are legally required to pay an annual license fee.

Why you need a license.

Music is the intellectual property of composers who, like other suppliers in the marketplace, deserve to be paid for the use of their product.

The Copyright Act 1994 entitles composers to exclusive rights including performance of their works in public.

Music played on radio; TV, CD or tape outside the domestic or private environment is a performance "in public," whether it is a live presentation or recorded music.

Also music played to callers over the telephone line is a communication to the public. All businesses that choose to play copyright music for their clientele, whether on the actual premises or as music on hold, will need to obtain the permission of the copyright owners.
